Rock legend Eric Clapton reportedly cut short his recent concert in Madrid after being struck by an object thrown from the audience.
The incident took place during Clapton’s show at Movistar Arena on 7 May, shortly after he performed his classic track Cocaine.
According to fan accounts and clips circulating online, what appeared to be a vinyl record sleeve or LP cover was thrown from the crowd and hit the 81-year-old guitarist in the chest as he was leaving the stage.
Video footage shared online appears to show Clapton reacting briefly before exiting, with the concert ending before the scheduled encore.
Despite the scare, reports suggest the musician was unharmed.
The incident comes amid growing concern across the live music industry over crowd behaviour at concerts, with several major artists having objects thrown at them onstage in recent years.
Clapton is currently continuing his live schedule and is due to perform a major outdoor UK concert later this summer as part of the HeritageLive series.
The guitarist will headline a one-night event at Sandringham Estate on 23 August 2026.
Giles Cooper of HeritageLive Festivals said: “Eric Clapton is one of the greatest musicians of all time and it’s a dream come true for all of us at HeritageLive Festivals to have him play at The Sandringham Estate for us next August.
“It’s going to be such a special and unique event, one of those gigs where you say in years to come, ‘I was there!’”
Widely regarded as one of the most influential guitarists in rock history, Clapton rose to fame with bands including Cream and The Yardbirds before launching a hugely successful solo career spanning more than six decades.
His catalogue includes landmark songs such as Layla, Wonderful Tonight and Tears in Heaven.
