Shakira, J Balvin, Maluma and other Colombian music stars have called for support for communities affected by the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck western Colombia on Monday 10 August 2026.

The earthquake was recorded near San José del Palmar in the Chocó department, with the US Geological Survey placing the event at a depth of around 107 kilometres.

The earthquake was felt across a large part of the country, with reports of damage and casualties in several cities including Cali, Armenia, Manizales, Pereira and Quibdó. Current reports put the death toll at more than 100, although figures remain subject to change as emergency crews continue their work.

Shakira sends message to Colombian earthquake victims

Shakira used X to send a message of support to those affected by the earthquake and their families.

Writing in Spanish, the singer said:

“Beloved Colombia, my heart is with everyone who felt this earthquake today and with the families who are going through moments of anguish. In times like these, we Colombians know how to come together and support one another. All my strength and love for my homeland. Let’s embrace tightly and stay tuned to the instructions so we can help as soon as possible.”

Her message came as emergency services and local organisations responded to reports of injuries, structural damage and displaced residents.

J Balvin calls for help after earthquake

J Balvin also addressed the disaster through his Instagram Stories, urging people to support those affected.

“Much strength with the situation of the earthquake in Colombia. Strength to all the people and families affected. We’re going to move quickly to help with the situation.”

The Medellín-born star has been among several Colombian artists using social media to amplify information about relief efforts and ways for people to assist affected communities.

Maluma shares message of support

Maluma also expressed his support for the victims and their families.

“It is heartbreaking, everything that is happening in Colombia. A hug from the heart to all the victims’ families, and we’re here to help.”

Other Colombian artists, including Karol G, Ryan Castro and Manuel Turizo, have also shared messages following the earthquake.

Artists share information about earthquake relief

Alongside messages of solidarity, several artists have shared information directing followers towards relief efforts.

J Balvin, Maluma, Karol G, Ryan Castro, Manuel Turizo and others have promoted Colombia Se Levanta, an organisation providing support to families affected by the earthquake.

The response from Colombia’s music community comes as authorities continue assessing the extent of the damage.

The earthquake struck at approximately 7:34am local time on Monday, according to earthquake records, with the epicentre near San José del Palmar.

The full scale of the disaster is still being assessed, with reports of damaged buildings and casualties across parts of western Colombia.
