Morrissey Cancels Atlanta Show Citing Illness As Tour Disruption Continues

Morrissey has cancelled another live date, pulling the plug on his scheduled concert in Atlanta on Saturday night, January 17, due to what promoters described as “artist illness”.

The former Smiths frontman was due on stage at 8pm, but a brief statement confirmed the show would not go ahead, adding that the decision was taken “on medical advice” and “in the interest of the artist’s wellbeing”. No further details were shared.

In a message posted to social media, promoters said:

“Due to artist illness, the Morrissey show on January 17, 2026, at 8 PM has been canceled. All ticket purchases will be refunded automatically at the point of purchase. Please allow 7–10 business days for refunds to take place.”

The Atlanta cancellation is the latest in a long line of disrupted shows, with Morrissey having called off numerous concerts in recent years, often at short notice.

The news arrives just as the singer has begun rolling out new material. Earlier this month, he returned with the title track from his forthcoming album Make-Up Is A Lie, marking his first studio release in more than five years. The record is set to land on March 6 via Sire Records, a Warner imprint that once housed The Smiths.

Reflecting on the long road to release in a recent post on Morrissey Central, he wrote:

“The wait has sometimes felt like a tragedy, but the release today of Make-up Is A Lie is like a reunion of lovers.”

The album is expected to feature Morrissey’s take on Roxy Music’s 1973 track Amazona and is separate from the much delayed Bonfire of Teenagers, which has yet to receive an official release despite being completed several years ago.

Morrissey’s recent career has been marked by label disputes and stalled projects. BMG dropped him in 2020, Capitol Records later shelved Bonfire of Teenagers, and in 2024 he revealed he had completed another album that remains unreleased.

For now, fans are left balancing anticipation for Make-Up Is A Lie with continued uncertainty around his live schedule.
