Alanis Morissette Comes Out As Pansexual During Podcast Appearance

Alanis Morissette has publicly identified as pansexual during an appearance on the Handsome podcast, hosted by Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster and Mae Martin.

The Canadian singer-songwriter made the revelation towards the end of the conversation, after Feimster joked about the men who had hurt Morissette and the songs that had emerged from those experiences.

“I’m sorry for the men that hurt you, but I’m not sorry for the songs that came from it,” Feimster told her, before asking: “Did it make you want to be a lesbian at any point?”

Morissette responded:

“I’m pansexual, so, yeah.”

Notaro appeared surprised by the announcement and asked:

“Wait, you’re not really pansexual, are you?”

Morissette confirmed her statement, replying:

“I am.”

Alanis Morissette jokes about saving the news for the end

The hosts then joked that Morissette could have opened the podcast with the revelation.

The singer had a typically playful response, saying:

“I like to leave it for the epilogue.”

Pansexuality describes the capacity to experience romantic, emotional or sexual attraction to people regardless of their gender identity or sex.

Alanis Morissette’s life beyond music

Morissette has been married to rapper Mario ‘Souleye’ Treadway since 2010. The couple have three children together: Ever, 15, Onyx, 10, and Winter, seven.

The singer became an international star with the release of her third studio album, Jagged Little Pill, in 1995. Featuring songs including You Oughta Know, Ironic, Hand In My Pocket and You Learn, the record became one of the defining albums of the decade.

Its influence extended beyond music when Jagged Little Pill was adapted into a Broadway musical, which opened in 2019. The production went on to win two Tony Awards in 2020.

Morissette’s podcast appearance has now added a personal revelation to the story of an artist whose music has long explored relationships, identity and emotional experience.
