Who Is JJ? Meet Austria’s 2025 Eurovision Champion
Born Johannes Pietsch in Vienna in 2001 and raised in Dubai, JJ is a rising star in the classical world. A finalist on Starmania in 2021, he currently performs at the Vienna State Opera and studies classical music at the prestigious Music and Art Private University of Vienna.
His Eurovision entry blends operatic vocals with modern emotion – a performance that clearly resonated across Europe. JJ received douze points from eight countries, including Germany, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands.
“There’s no such thing as wasted love,” JJ told reporters backstage. “Every emotion, every heartbreak – it all has meaning.”
Austria’s Eurovision Legacy: From Udo to Conchita to JJ
Austria’s Eurovision journey began in 1957, with their first win in 1966 courtesy of Udo Jürgens’ Merci, Chérie. Nearly five decades later, Conchita Wurst’s unforgettable performance of Rise Like a Phoenix secured the country’s second title in 2014. Now, JJ brings Austria back to the winner’s circle in 2025.
The victory means Austria will host Eurovision 2026, marking the contest’s return to Austrian soil for the first time in over a decade.
UK’s Eurovision Result: Another Public Vote Wipeout
Unfortunately, it was another difficult year for the UK, whose entry Remember Monday finished 19th with just 88 points. The act once again received zero points from the public vote, marking the second consecutive year without any public support.
