Billie Eilish and James Cameron have pushed back the release of their upcoming 3D concert film Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour, with the project now set to arrive in cinemas on May 8.
The film had originally been scheduled for release on 20 March, but Cameron confirmed the delay is down to additional post-production work and upgrades to the 3D technology being used.
“We’re refining the cut; dialing in cool, new 3D tech; adding some special behind-the-scenes we know you’ll love,” Cameron wrote on Threads. “@hitmehardandsoftmovie will now release Friday, May 8th. Worth the wait!”
The concert film captures Eilish’s global tour in support of her 2024 album Hit Me Hard and Soft and marks her first time co-directing a feature-length project. She officially announced the film during the final tour date at San Francisco’s Chase Center in November 2025.
Sharing the original release news with fans, Eilish wrote on Instagram:
“This has been one of my favorite tours everrrrrr and being able to capture it and co-direct this film with @jamescameronofficial has truly been a dream come true.”
The collaboration was first teased during Eilish’s Manchester dates last summer, where she revealed Cameron was in attendance and that the shows were being filmed in 3D. The tour itself began on 29 September 2024 in Quebec City and featured a rotating cast of support acts including Finneas, Ashnikko, The Marías, Tom Odell, Syd, Magdalena Bay and Yoasobi.
While fans will have to wait a little longer, Cameron has promised the final version will be “worth the wait”.
