The pop icon allegedly sparked concern among crew members when she lit a cigarette and drank alcohol during the trip from Cabo San Lucas to LA on Thursday. According to People and TMZ, flight attendants quickly intervened and asked Britney to extinguish the cigarette. Authorities were reportedly contacted during the flight and met the 43-year-old upon landing. She was warned about her conduct and then allowed to leave without further incident.
Now, Britney has taken to Instagram to share her side of the story — claiming it was all a misunderstanding.
“Confession it was my first time drinking VODKA!!! I swear I felt so SMART 😂!!! I was like wow what the heck is in there !!! I felt so clear and smart !!!” she wrote.
“And said I want a cigarette so bad !!! My friend put it in my mouth and lit… it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!”
The Toxic singer apologised to anyone who may have been offended but said she assumed it was allowed on the type of plane she was flying on.
“I do so apologize to anyone I offended but the flight attendants always make sure I’m way at the back of plane anyways!!!”
She also explained that she thought the officials who greeted her in LA were part of her support team.
“The flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette !!! And embarrass me which jeez I thought was kinda much but she didn’t like me the moment I got on plane !!!”
Britney went on to criticise the flight attendant for being overly strict about seatbelt use and accused her of invading her personal space.
“Nobody was on the plane for first 20 minutes and she wouldn’t let me get out of my seat I wanted to stand up !!! She acted so weird about making sure I sat down and it was weird !!! I didn’t like the way she put the seatbelt on me and invaded my space !!!”
Alongside her caption, Britney posted a video of herself on the plane holding a bottle of alcohol, appearing relaxed in her seat.
