Bruno Mars made Roblox history in January, performing in the platform’s hit game Steal a Brainrot to celebrate the release of his new single. The in-game concert drew a record 12.8 million concurrent users, marking the most-watched solo artist performance on Roblox to date.
Fans logged in to the Steal a Brainrot virtual world on Saturday 17 January to experience Mars performing his latest track, I Just Might, alongside his 2012 hit Locked Out of Heaven. The event also offered exclusive collectibles, including Bruno-themed Brainrots, which players could claim in-game, with a total of over 5.4 million items issued during the concert.
“The response has been incredible. To see millions of players coming together in one virtual space for music is just amazing,” a Roblox spokesperson said.
The game itself, based on the Italian “brainrot” meme, lets players collect voxel characters called Brainrots in a Pokémon-style format. Steal a Brainrot became the first Roblox game to surpass 25 million concurrent players since its launch last year, and Mars’ appearance showcased the platform’s growing appeal for major artists.
In addition to the in-game audience, the concert reached 10 million livestream viewers across 14 countries and generated 53 million social video views. While Mars used standard Roblox avatars for the performance, it marked another milestone in the ongoing integration of music and virtual gaming, following similar high-profile events like Lil Nas X’s Roblox concert in 2020.
Mars’ Roblox performance coincides with the promotional push for his upcoming album, The Romantic, dropping 27 February and a highly anticipated world tour. Demand for tickets is so high that over 30 extra dates have been added across North America, Europe, and the UK.
