Coldplay Reissuing All Albums On EcoRecords Made From Recycled Plastic Bottles

Coldplay have announced plans to reissue their entire discography on EcoRecords, a sustainable record format made entirely from recycled plastic bottles.

The re-releases will span all nine of the band’s studio albums, from their 2000 debut Parachutes through to Music of the Spheres, ahead of the 15 August release date. Each LP will be pressed on clear 140g EcoRecords using injection-moulded technology that cuts carbon emissions by 85 percent compared with traditional vinyl production.

This initiative builds on Coldplay’s ongoing mission to reduce their environmental footprint, following the band’s landmark claim of cutting emissions from their Music of the Spheres World Tour by 59 percent.

“The shift to EcoRecord LP for their releases is a testament to what’s possible when innovation meets intention,” said Jen Ivory, Managing Director of Parlophone. “It’s not just about a new product. It’s about pioneering manufacturing that significantly reduces environmental impact, while giving fans the same high-quality audio experience.”

What is an EcoRecord?

Unlike traditional vinyl, EcoRecords are made from 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) — the same material used in plastic bottles. Each record contains material from roughly nine recycled bottles recovered through post-consumer recycling. The PET is cleaned, pelletised, and injection-moulded into durable, lightweight LPs designed for circular reuse and reduced shipping emissions.

Although EcoRecords can be made using virgin PET, Coldplay have committed to using only rPET across all their physical releases. Their 2023 album Moon Music was the first record in history to be released in this format.

Albums being reissued on EcoRecord

The following albums will be re-released as EcoRecords on August 15:

  • Parachutes
  • A Rush of Blood to the Head
  • X&Y
  • Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends
  • Mylo Xyloto
  • Ghost Stories
  • A Head Full of Dreams
  • Everyday Life
  • Music of the Spheres

Pre-orders are available now through selected retailers and Coldplay’s official store.

“We are incredibly proud to partner with artists such as Coldplay who share our commitment to a more sustainable future for music,” added Ivory. “This sets a new standard for how physical music can be made and enjoyed.”

Coldplay’s move is part of a growing shift in the industry towards greener music formats. Artists such as Billie Eilish and Massive Attack have also advocated for more sustainable production, from touring practices to physical product manufacturing.
