David Bowie Immersive Experience You’re Not Alone Opens At London’s Lightroom

A new David Bowie immersive experience will open at Lightroom in London from 22 April 2026, offering fans a large-scale audiovisual journey through Bowie’s music, ideas, and creative process. David Bowie: You’re Not Alone runs at the King’s Cross venue until 28 June, with further summer dates expected.

Created using material from the David Bowie Archive in New York, the experience places Bowie’s own voice at the centre of a 360-degree environment built from rare footage, reworked performances, photographs, handwritten notes, drawings, and studio recordings. The production is fully authorised by the David Bowie Estate.

Inside David Bowie: You’re Not Alone

Produced by Lightroom and created by design studio 59, the project is directed by Mark Grimmer, Creative Director of the V&A’s David Bowie Is exhibition, alongside Tom Wexler. Rather than focusing on Bowie’s famous alter egos, the experience centres on the artist behind them, exploring his views on creativity, identity, spirituality, and performance.

The show unfolds in themed chapters, blending newly configured audio with immersive visuals across Lightroom’s expansive digital canvas. Highlights include reconstructed live moments from Space Oddity, Diamond Dogs, Heroes, and Blackstar, all presented using spatial audio designed by Gareth Fry, whose previous work includes Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and David Bowie Is.

Visitors will also encounter archival television moments, including Bowie’s 1975 interview with Russell Harty, alongside a large-scale reimagining of the Diamond Dogs tour set.

Creative approach and vision

Grimmer said the team aimed to move away from the idea of Bowie as an untouchable figure.

“Throughout his career, Bowie resisted being seen as anything other than human. Rather than diminishing his mystique, we wanted to celebrate him as a champion of human creativity — someone who believed art helps us understand what it means to be alive.”

Lightroom Executive Producer David Sabel highlighted how the venue’s format suits Bowie’s work.

“Lightroom lets audiences step inside an artist’s imagination. There’s no one more fitting for that than David Bowie. Travelling across decades of his performances — whether you’re reliving them or discovering them for the first time — is a total thrill.”
