Foo Fighters have quietly released 10 short pieces of new music via their official website, marking the band’s first fresh material since 2023’s But Here We Are. The clips, which range from five to 13 seconds, are accessible by clicking on posters and photos pinned to a virtual bedroom wall on the site.
Only one of the snippets features vocals. The rest are instrumental riffs. According to Variety, no further details have been shared, though the tracks are believed to be part of the band’s upcoming 12th studio album.
Dave Grohl says new album is finished
Frontman Dave Grohl recently confirmed that the band’s next album is complete. Speaking during a one-off show in Tasmania, Australia, he told the crowd:
“We’ll be back here sooner than you think. I know when we’re coming back! It is before my next birthday [January 14, 2027], just so you know.
And we might have a whole new record of f****** songs that we just finished the other day. I dunno!”
If released in 2026, the project would follow But Here We Are, which arrived in 2023 and marked the band’s 11th studio album.
Recent releases and live album
Last year, Foo Fighters shared two new songs, Today’s Song and Asking For A Friend, alongside a live album titled Are Playing Where??? Vol. I, which dropped in October.
The band also launched their Take Cover tour in Mexico last month.
Pat Smear injury and Jason Falkner stepping in
The tour began without guitarist Pat Smear, who suffered “multiple broken bones” in his foot in what the band described as a “bizarre gardening accident”.
Foo Fighters addressed the incident on Instagram with a mock magazine cover referencing the 1984 film This Is Spinal Tap. The caption read:
“BREAKING NEWS! “In the classic tradition of rockstars having bizarre gardening accidents, Pat Smear has apparently rung in the new year by smashing the s*** out of his left foot.
“This means he’ll unfortunately be missing a few shows while the multiple broken bones in his foot heal. We’ll miss our beloved Pat as much as you will, but we want him fully healed and back on his feet as soon as possible.
“Beck and St. Vincent guitar wizard Jason Falkner will be filling in for Pat while he’s on the mend.”
Jason Falkner, known for his work with Beck and St. Vincent, is currently covering guitar duties while Smear recovers.
With the new album reportedly finished and teaser clips now live, a full Foo Fighters release announcement could follow soon.
