Hilary Duff Reflects On 10 Years Of ‘Breathe In. Breathe Out.’

Hilary Duff has marked the 10th anniversary of her album Breathe In. Breathe Out., calling the record “authentic” despite its modest chart success.

Originally released on 12 June 2015, Breathe In. Breathe Out. was Duff’s fifth studio album and included the synth-pop single Sparks. The album arrived eight years after her previous record, following a break from music to focus on acting and motherhood.

To celebrate the milestone, Duff shared a selection of personal photos on Instagram, including selfies and behind-the-scenes shots from the studio, plus a few snaps with her son Luca, now 13.

“It’s hard to believe that Breathe In. Breathe Out. is 10 years old today. While that time in my life has some bright spots, some blurry spots and some uncomfortable pain, I look back with fondness and a now knowing that I ended up exactly where I needed to be.”

Duff admitted the album didn’t achieve major commercial success, but said it gave her meaningful collaborations, including with Ed Sheeran, Tove Lo, Kara DioGuardi, and producer Matthew Koma, who she later married.

“While Breathe In. Breathe Out. didn’t have major success, there was still some work on the record that felt authentic. I see you all blaming yourselves on TikTok — not actually your fault (but really it was), just kidding, but don’t let it happen again…next time…okay,” she joked.

BIBO brought Matt into my world and that’s the real reason we have to love her.”
