Kesha is on a mission to shake up the music industry with the launch of SMASH, a new platform designed to give power back to creators.
The pop star behind hits like Tik Tok and Praying has unveiled SMASH as a collaborative community where artists, producers, and songwriters can connect, work together, and retain full rights to their music. The platform aims to remove the middlemen and allow creators to work on their own terms.
“My goal is to shift the power structure of the music-making business in favour of the creators,” Kesha said. “I signed a predatory deal when I was 18 and spent over a decade fighting to regain the rights to my voice and image. When I finally gained my freedom, I realised the fight wasn’t over. I want to make sure what happened to me never happens to anyone else again.”
Kesha will serve as CEO of SMASH, alongside her brother Lagan Sebert and tech entrepreneur Alan Cannistraro. The team also includes experienced names from both the music and tech worlds.
“By connecting a safe and supportive community of the best songwriters, producers, instrumentalists, and sound engineers, SMASH takes power out of the hands of the traditional gatekeepers and puts it where it belongs — with the creators,” said a statement from the platform’s founders.
To celebrate the launch, Kesha has announced a remix challenge for her latest single, Boy Crazy. Creators are invited to put their spin on the track, and the winning remix will be released via Kesha Records, her independent label launched in 2023 following the end of her legal battle with former producer Dr. Luke.
Kesha’s sixth studio album, titled Period, will be released on 4 July 2025.
