Madonna Confirms Long-Rumoured Veronica Electronica Remix Album From Ray of Light Era

Madonna has officially announced Veronica Electronica, a long-rumoured remix album originally conceived during the Ray of Light era but never released — until now.

The eight-track collection will drop on 25 July and features “rare and unreleased” remixes from her 1998 Grammy-winning album Ray of Light. Many of the tracks have been newly edited or reworked versions of club remixes by producers including Peter Rauhofer, William Orbit, Sasha, BT, and Victor Calderone.

One major highlight is Gone, Gone, Gone, a previously unheard demo produced by Madonna and Rick Nowels. Fans can already stream Skin (The Collaboration Remix Edit) on all major platforms as a preview of what’s to come.

According to Madonna’s team, the album was initially shelved not because it lacked material, but because Ray of Light itself became such a commercial and critical juggernaut.

“The project was ultimately sidelined by the original album’s runaway success and the parade of hit singles that dominated the spotlight for more than a year,” reads the official press release.

Originally released in 1998, Ray of Light sold over 16 million copies worldwide and earned Madonna four Grammy Awards, including Best Pop Album.

Now, more than 25 years later, the pop icon is finally ready to introduce fans to the “other half” of her artistic identity. In an Instagram Story, Madonna explained the origins of her electronic alter ego:

“Making my Ray of Light album was a seminal moment in my life as an artist. I was going through a huge metamorphosis. I had given birth to my daughter Lola. I had found my spiritual path and I was ready to shed a new skin and take a road less travelled by. I ventured into electronic music with William Orbit and I created an alter ego, taking one of my middle names — and Veronica Electronica was born. Meet my other half.”

Madonna’s most recent studio album was 2019’s Madame X. Veronica Electronica will mark her return to the recorded music space following her critically acclaimed Celebration Tour.
