Mariah Carey says she simply refuses to age, and according to her, it’s working.
As she gears up to release her sixteenth studio album Here for It All on 26 September 2025, the pop icon told Harper’s Bazaar UK that ageing is not something she acknowledges.
“I don’t allow it. It just doesn’t happen,” she said. “I don’t know time. I don’t know numbers. I do not acknowledge time — I have a new song that starts with that line…”
Now 56, Carey has long leaned into the persona of the untouchable diva, and she’s not shying away from it. In fact, she says she’s her own biggest inspiration.
“I’m going to have to go with me!” she laughed, when asked which artist she most admires.
Despite her confidence, the Fantasy and Always Be My Baby singer admitted she still pays attention to the critical response to her music, even after more than three decades in the spotlight.
“It’s nice when people say good things and give you a good response,” she said. “And then if they don’t like it and they don’t say good things, you have to be able to push that away, let that go. Because why, at this point in my life, would I really be worried about that stuff?”
Carey also addressed the public scrutiny that comes with her level of fame. She no longer tries to hide from it.
“It’s part of my job,” she said. “What’s the point of a disguise? Just get up, get dressed, go out. If I don’t want to be seen, I’ll stay home.”
Here for It All will mark Mariah’s first full-length album since 2020’s The Rarities, and fans will be watching closely to see how it blends her signature sound with new material.
