Metallica have expanded their upcoming Las Vegas Sphere residency, adding 16 additional performances to the original run. The residency, titled Life Burns Faster, will now include 24 shows at the Sphere in October 2026.
The band initially announced eight shows less than a month ago. Those dates were scheduled as four pairs of performances on October 1 and 3, 15 and 17, 22 and 24, and 29 and 31, 2026. With the extension, the residency will now run across multiple additional weeks.
Metallica confirmed the expansion directly to fans via their official website.
“This is it—we’re maxing out Life Burns Faster… more dates have been added to the run, bringing our upcoming Sphere residency to 24 shows.”
No Repeat Weekends return for The Sphere residency
The concerts will follow Metallica’s No Repeat Weekend format, a structure the band has used on their recent tours. Each Thursday and Saturday performance will feature completely different setlists.
That means fans attending both shows in a given week will not hear the same song twice.
When the residency was first announced, the band confirmed that the setlists would draw from their entire catalogue.
“Surprise! The world’s worst-kept secret is now official… we are bringing our No Repeat Weekends to Sphere in Las Vegas this fall!!
“Our Sphere weekend residency, Life Burns Faster, will debut on October 1 3, with six more shows to follow. As you’ve come to expect, each set of shows will be No Repeat Weekends, meaning if you attend both the Thursday and Saturday shows, you will not hear the same song twice.
“Life Burns Faster set lists will span the entire catalog, enhanced by the venue’s immersive technologies that will allow you to experience the ’Tallica sound in new experiential dimensions. Whether you’ve seen us from the upper reaches of a stadium or arena, at an intimate club or theater gig, or from the Snake Pit, Sphere’s technology will present an entirely new live experience for everyone in the house…including us! From the sights (the world’s highest-resolution LED display that wraps up, over, and around the audience) to the sounds (immersive audio delivering unmatched clarity and precision to every guest) to the multi-sensory 4D technology, Sphere shows promise to deliver a totally unique experience each and every night.
“We are beyond excited to share this with the world in six months’ time and way psyched to go next level, it’s completely uncharted territory! This residency gives us another chance to reinvent how we interact with you guys in a live setting, and we can’t wait to see you there (sic).”
Sphere technology will reshape the live experience
The Las Vegas Sphere is designed specifically for immersive events. The venue includes a wraparound ultra-high-resolution LED display, an advanced spatial audio system and 4D multi-sensory effects designed to transform the concert experience.
Metallica plan to use these technologies to present their music in a different format from traditional arena or stadium shows.
Fans familiar with the band’s Snake Pit stage configuration from their current tour can expect a very different production environment inside the Sphere.
Residency follows the global M72 World Tour
The Sphere shows arrive after two years of touring on the band’s M72 World Tour, which has already drawn more than four million fans across Europe, North America, the Pacific Rim and the Middle East.
The tour’s rotating circular stage and large-scale production have been widely praised as some of the most ambitious of Metallica’s career.
Lars Ulrich on the moment the idea began
Metallica drummer and co-founder Lars Ulrich said the idea for the residency came after seeing the Sphere in action during U2’s opening run at the venue in 2023.
“About 12 seconds into the opening night of Sphere with U2 back in ’23, I thought ‘We have to do this, it’s completely uncharted territory!’”
Ulrich said the residency gives the band an opportunity to rethink how their live show connects with audiences.
“This residency gives us another chance to reinvent how we interact with our fans in a live setting. We are beyond excited to share this with the world in six months time, and way f***in’ psyched to go next level!”
