My Chemical Romance have fuelled fresh speculation after sharing a stripped-back, cryptic video that appears to hint at a new project.
The band posted the clip to Instagram on Sunday with the caption “A GAME YOU WILL PLAY”. The video flashes the word “PHANTOM” in flickering neon green text, with no music or sound, and was also shared by guitarist Frank Iero.
Notably, the teaser has no visual or thematic connection to The Black Parade, despite the band currently touring to mark the album’s 20th anniversary. That contrast has led fans to question whether the video points towards new material rather than anything linked to the live shows.
My Chemical Romance last released new music in 2022 with The Foundations of Decay, their first original track in eight years. Their most recent studio album remains 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, released three years before their split in 2013.
Asked last year about the possibility of new music, Iero made it clear the band would reveal any plans on their own terms.
“No, sorry. When that stuff, if that stuff were to happen, we will tell you. We will tell you the way we want to tell you.”
The band are currently continuing their Black Parade anniversary tour, returning to the stage in Lima, Peru on Monday following the postponement of their Bogotá date earlier this month.
For now, “PHANTOM” remains unexplained, but that silence alone has been enough to set fans talking.
