Fresh speculation about Oasis returning to Knebworth has gathered pace after concert promoter SJM Concerts was granted a licence to stage events for up to 125,000 people at the historic venue. While no artist has been confirmed, the timing has fuelled reports that the Britpop icons could be planning another series of landmark shows in 2027.
According to the BBC, North Hertfordshire Council approved SJM Concerts’ application with immediate effect, allowing large-scale events to run into the early hours. The licence does not name an artist or specify any event dates.
Rumours link Oasis to a return to Knebworth
The newly approved licence has prompted renewed reports that Oasis are considering six concerts at Knebworth in September 2027, more than 30 years after their record-breaking performances at the venue in August 1996.
The band’s two original Knebworth concerts attracted one of the biggest ticket demands in UK music history, with around 2.6 million people reportedly applying for tickets.
Reports have also suggested Oasis could stage a lengthy run of homecoming concerts at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium before any Knebworth dates.
According to The Sun, the proposed schedule would begin with a residency in Manchester before moving to Hertfordshire.
“Oasis’ schedule is booked.
“It’s 12 nights at the Etihad over six weeks starting in June.
“They will then play Knebworth six times over a three-week period in September.
“Dates could be added but for now that’s the master plan.”
Neither Oasis nor their representatives have confirmed the reports.
Announcement reportedly expected in August
Further reports claim an announcement could arrive later this month, although no official confirmation has been made.
One unnamed source told The Sun that Noel and Liam Gallagher had always intended to extend the reunion tour.
“Noel and Liam always planned for the tour to have a second run.
“There were discussions about announcing [it] during the World Cup because of the connection between Wonderwall and the Three Lions in this tournament.
“But they’ve settled on August.
“It’ll give the country something to shout about, whether we’re celebrating or commiserating.”
As these claims remain unconfirmed, fans should treat them as speculation until an official announcement is made.
Six Knebworth shows would set a new record
If Oasis were to perform six concerts at Knebworth, they would become the first act to reach that milestone at the venue.
Another unnamed source claimed the location remains significant to both Gallagher brothers.
“Knebworth is a special place for Noel and Liam.
“The shows in 1996 broke records as 2.6 million people applied for tickets.
“It was the largest demand for tickets in British music history.
“They broke that with Oasis Live ’25.
“Now they’re going to become the only act to have played Knebworth six times.”
The claims have not been independently verified.
Liam Gallagher hints at more live shows
Liam Gallagher has also fuelled speculation through recent posts on X, where he appeared to suggest Oasis will continue touring in 2027.
Replying to a fan who asked whether a popular crowd tradition during “Cigarettes & Alcohol” would continue, Liam wrote:
“Oh it will.”
However, he stopped short of confirming any venues or dates.
When asked about reports linking Oasis with a concert at Slane Castle in Ireland, he replied:
“Good question.”
Responding to another fan asking about possible Scottish dates, Gallagher added:
“Stop trying to cause theatre.”
He also jokingly told another user Oasis would be playing Manchester’s Etihad Stadium for:
“a whole year.”
At the time of writing, Oasis have not announced any additional 2027 tour dates beyond existing official plans.
