Placebo have announced a reworked version of their 1996 debut album alongside a major UK and European arena tour to mark 30 years since its release.
Titled Placebo RE:CREATED, the project arrives on 19 June 2026 and revisits the record that introduced Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal at the height of the Britpop era.
A debut that stood apart from Britpop
When Placebo first landed in 1996, it cut against the dominant sound of the time. While much of the UK charts leaned into retro influences, Placebo explored themes of identity, queerness, addiction and alienation with a directness that set them apart.
The album quickly built a cult following, driven by standout singles including Nancy Boy and 36 Degrees, and laid the foundation for a career defined by resisting easy categorisation.
A “director’s cut” built from 30 years on the road
Rather than a full remake, RE:CREATED has been developed from the original master recordings, with the band reshaping the material based on how the songs have evolved live over three decades.
The band described the project as a “director’s cut” of the album.
“30 years of playing these songs live,” they said, has informed the new versions, with the aim to “drag [the album] into the 21st century sonically” while preserving its original character.
They added that the release represents:
“a celebration of where we began” and “a meeting point between who we were then and who we are now.”
The updated release features all ten original tracks along with two bonus songs from the same era.
2026 arena tour across UK and Europe
To support the anniversary, Placebo will embark on a 36 date arena tour across Europe and the UK.
The tour begins in Portugal on 28 September 2026, before moving through major European markets and concluding in the UK.
The setlist will focus heavily on material from their first two albums, Placebo and Without You I’m Nothing, including songs that have not been performed live for more than 20 years.
Royal Albert Hall show confirmed before tour
Ahead of the full tour, the band will perform at the Teenage Cancer Trust Concert Series at Royal Albert Hall on 28 March 2026.
The show will also feature Garbage and takes place at the invitation of Robert Smith of The Cure.

Placebo RE:CREATED will be available across multiple formats including CD, cassette, vinyl editions and a box set.
