Pulp Score First Number One Album In 27 Years With ‘More’

Pulp have claimed their first UK number one album in nearly three decades, as More tops this week’s Official Albums Chart.

The Sheffield band, fronted by Jarvis Cocker, last reached number one in 1998 with This Is Hardcore. Now, 27 years later, More has debuted at the top of the chart, also becoming the UK’s best-selling vinyl album of the week.

The new album, released on 6 June, is the band’s first studio release since 2001’s We Love Life, which peaked at number six. Produced by James Ford — known for his work with Arctic Monkeys, Florence and the Machine and Kylie Minogue — More is Pulp’s eighth studio album and their second to ever hit number one.

Their previous chart-topper, Different Class (1995), featured the enduring Britpop anthem Common People and helped cement the band’s place in British music history.

In a week packed with new releases, Pulp fought off strong competition. Addison Rae’s self-titled debut Addison entered at number two, while Little Simz landed her highest charting album yet with Lotus, coming in at number three.
