RAYE has released her second studio album This Music May Contain Hope, a 17-track project structured as a four-part concept record, following delays caused by the theft of her songbooks.
The album arrives in 2026 as the follow-up to 2023’s My 21st Century Blues, marking a clear creative evolution for the South London artist.
A four-part album built around storytelling
This Music May Contain Hope is divided into four “seasons,” with each side of the vinyl representing a different stage in the narrative. The structure reflects emotional shifts across the record, moving through themes of heartbreak, uncertainty and rebuilding.
The project blends multiple genres including pop, R&B, jazz, soul, big band and orchestral arrangements, giving the album a broad sonic palette that mirrors its conceptual ambition.
RAYE explains the meaning behind the album
RAYE has framed the album as a personal and shared form of healing, describing music as something that can offer reassurance during difficult periods.
“Music is medicine, I’ve always said that. I guess I’m in the process of making medicine for myself that I can share with the world. I want us all to say to ourselves that it’s going to be all right, and I’m going to have faith in the seeds that I’ve planted beneath the snow. I wanted to create something that is a hug, bed or soft place for that person who needs it.”
How the album builds on her previous work
Following the critical success of My 21st Century Blues, the new album expands RAYE’s musical range while continuing to explore deeply personal themes.
The 17-track collection reflects a more layered approach to songwriting and production, with each section contributing to a wider narrative about resilience and growth.
The release includes the UK No.1 single Where Is My Husband!, alongside previously released tracks Nightingale Lane and Click Clack Symphony, the latter created with Hans Zimmer.
Closing track ‘fin’ completes the concept
The album concludes with Fin, which acts as the final piece of the four-part structure and reinforces the record’s central message around perseverance and perspective.
“Hope is above the clouds to conclude/There and so it goes/And as it says on the tin, in the winds/That this May Contain Hope.”
The track brings the album’s narrative full circle, tying together its themes and structure in a deliberate closing statement.
