Rein Me In Hits Number 1 As Sam Fender And Olivia Dean Make UK Chart History

Sam Fender and Olivia Dean have reached Number 1 on the UK’s Official Charts with their collaboration “Rein Me In”, completing a 35 week climb that began when the track first entered the Top 40 in June 2025. The single now holds the record for the longest journey to Number 1 in UK chart history.

The achievement breaks the previous record set by Ed Sheeran with Perfect, which took 22 weeks to reach the top in 2017.

The longest slow burn climb to number one

“Rein Me In” did not debut at the summit. Instead, the track steadily moved through the chart over 35 consecutive weeks before finally reaching Number 1.

During that run, the song peaked at Number 5 on three separate occasions before completing its climb. The result sets a new benchmark for chart endurance in the UK.

A first number one for Sam Fender

The chart success marks Sam Fender’s first Number 1 single. His previous highest chart position came with the song “Seventeen Going Under”, which reached Number 3 in 2021.

The new record strengthens his presence on the UK charts after several years of consistent singles and album releases.

Olivia Dean secures a major chart week

Olivia Dean also records a strong week on the chart alongside the Number 1 collaboration. Her solo single “So Easy (To Fall In Love)” climbs to Number 2, while her earlier chart topper “Man I Need” moves up to Number 4.

The results give her multiple songs inside the Top 5 during the same chart cycle.
