RM from BTS - ankle injury

RM of BTS has suffered an ankle injury just days before the group’s major comeback concert, with his on-stage performance now set to be limited.

The injury was confirmed by BigHit Music via fan platform Weverse on Friday 20 March 2026, ahead of the live Netflix special BTS The Comeback Live | Arirang, which airs from Seoul on Saturday.

Injury sustained during rehearsals

According to the label, RM was injured during rehearsals on Thursday and required hospital treatment.

“RM suffered an ankle injury and was taken to a hospital to undergo a detailed examination and treatment.”

Medical staff diagnosed multiple issues affecting the ankle.

“A medical diagnosis confirmed a sprain of the accessory navicular, a partial ligament tear, and a talus contusion (which includes ligament damage and inflammation).”

Performance will be “partially limited”

BigHit Music confirmed that RM will need to wear a cast and reduce movement for at least two weeks.

“As advised by medical professionals, he must wear a cast and strictly limit movement for a minimum of two weeks to concentrate solely on his recovery.”

While RM will still take part in the comeback show, adjustments will be made to avoid further injury.

“Accordingly, RM’s on-stage performance, including choreography, will be partially limited.”

The label added that the decision was made to prioritise his recovery while still delivering a high standard performance.

Comeback marks first full group performance in years

The concert marks BTS’s first full performance together in nearly four years, following a hiatus during which members completed South Korea’s mandatory military service.

The show coincides with the release of the group’s new album Arirang, their first in six years.

Global tour set to follow

Despite the injury, BTS are still preparing to launch a global tour starting in April 2026, with dates scheduled through to March 2027.

The group, which includes RM, Jung Kook, V, Jimin, Suga, Jin and J-Hope, are returning to full group activity after completing their service obligations.

For now, attention will be on how RM manages the performance, with choreography scaled back to accommodate his recovery while maintaining the scale of the comeback event.
