Stevie Wonder has announced his first new studio album in 22 years, titled Through The Eyes Of Wonder. The legendary singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist revealed the project during the Cardiff, Wales stop of his “Love, Light, and Song” tour, confirming that he is putting the finishing touches to the album ahead of its planned 2027 release.

The album will be Wonder’s first full-length studio release since A Time To Love, which was released in 2005. It will also feature four previously unreleased songs recorded during the sessions for his acclaimed 1976 album Songs In The Key Of Life.

Stevie Wonder announces new album Through The Eyes Of Wonder

Wonder has not yet shared the full tracklist or an exact release date for Through The Eyes Of Wonder, but the announcement has generated significant interest among fans because of the connection to one of the most celebrated periods of his career.

The four unreleased tracks come from the creative sessions behind Songs In The Key Of Life, an album widely recognised as one of the defining records in popular music history. The 1976 classic included songs such as “Sir Duke”, “I Wish”, “Isn’t She Lovely”, “As” and “Another Star”.

For listeners and music historians, the inclusion of material from that era offers a rare opportunity to hear previously unheard work from one of Wonder’s most influential creative periods.

Stevie Wonder says retirement is not part of his plans

At 75, Stevie Wonder has made it clear that he has no plans to step away from music. During a 2025 appearance on the BBC’s Sidetracked podcast with host Annie Mac, the Motown icon spoke about his continuing passion for creating and performing.

“For as long as you breathe, for as long as your heart beats, there’s more for you to do,” Wonder told host Annie Mac. “I’m not gonna stop the gift that keeps pouring through my body.”

Wonder explained that creativity is a lifelong process rather than something limited by age.

“An artist doesn’t stop drawing just because. You keep on. So as long as you can imagine, as long as you are going to be creative, and as long as you let your mind work, you don’t have to retire.”

The musician also reflected on his relationship with performing songs from his extensive catalogue.

“Songs are like children, they’re with you forever,” he said. “They are statements from the spirit within you, and singing those songs is like me taking another breath.”

Stevie Wonder’s legacy continues after six decades in music

Wonder’s career spans more than 60 years and includes 25 Grammy Awards, making him one of the most decorated artists in music history.

His influence reaches across R&B, soul, pop, jazz and gospel, with generations of musicians citing his songwriting, vocal performances and instrumental ability as major inspirations.

His previous studio album, A Time To Love, arrived in 2005 and featured collaborations with artists including Prince, India.Arie and Aisha Morris.

Stevie Wonder addresses rumours about his blindness

During a recent tour appearance in Wales, Wonder also addressed long-running online speculation questioning whether he is blind.

“I must say to all of you, something that I was thinking, ‘When did I want to let the world know this?’ But I wanted to say it right now,” Wonder said. “You know there have been rumors about me seeing and all that? But seriously, you know the truth.”

He continued:

“Truth is, shortly after my birth, I became blind. Now, that was a blessing because it’s allowed me to see the world in the vision of truth, of sight. See people in the spirit of them, not how they look. Not what color they are, but what color is their spirit?”

What to expect from Stevie Wonder’s 2027 album

With Through The Eyes Of Wonder, Stevie Wonder is preparing to add another chapter to a career that has already produced some of the most influential music of the modern era.

The album’s combination of new material and unreleased recordings from the Songs In The Key Of Life period makes it one of the most anticipated music releases currently scheduled for 2027.
