Taylor Swift has become the youngest-ever inductee into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, receiving the honour at a ceremony at Nashville’s Music City Center on Monday night.
The 36-year-old singer was introduced by country star Brad Paisley, while Lainey Wilson performed Swift’s hit Love Story in celebration of her songwriting career.
Taylor Swift Reunites With Brad Paisley After Cricket Prank
Swift brought humour to her acceptance speech by recalling a prank Paisley played on her in 2007, when she was the opening act on his tour.
The singer joked that the incident had left the pair estranged for years after Paisley filled her tour bus with thousands of live crickets.
He took a tour prank too far. Filled my entire tour bus with live crickets. Thousands of them. Oh my God. For months, I couldn’t sleep. Just chirp… chirp… chirp. But you know what? You did such an amazing job with that introduction, I think we can let bygones be bygones. Thank you. Yeah, I think we’re good now.
The light-hearted moment offered a personal touch to a night celebrating Swift’s achievements as a songwriter, with Paisley helping introduce her to the Hall of Fame.
Swift Credits Nashville For Her Songwriting Foundations
Swift also used her speech to recognise the Nashville music community and the influence it has had on her ability to work across genres and collaborate with different artists.
The only reason that I’ve been able to have that kind of dexterity in my creative process is because of the fundamentals and the foundation that I learned here in Nashville, and I never forget that for a single second. I tell every single person I know about what we have here, and I’m so incredibly honoured to be inducted into this sacred club, especially at this point in my life.
Although Swift has become one of the world’s biggest pop stars, Nashville remains central to her development as a songwriter. She described the city as the place where she honed her craft and developed the skill she values most about herself.
this thing about myself and the thing about my life that I am the most proud of and the most passionate about
She also praised the community’s unique place in music.
There is no music community like this music community. I know, I checked all the communities.
Swift’s induction recognises the songwriting work that has underpinned her career, from her early country releases to the pop and other musical styles she has explored since.
Taylor Swift Adds Another Songwriting Honour
Swift was inducted alongside Lyle Lovett, Shawn Camp, Lee Thomas Miller, Bruce Channel and the late J.I. Allison. Country music legend George Strait received the Career Maker Award at the ceremony.
The Nashville honour follows another major recognition for Swift in June, when she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She became the youngest woman to receive that distinction.
The two inductions highlight Swift’s standing as a songwriter as well as a performer, recognising the work behind the songs that have defined her career.
