Spotify Launches ‘Verified By Spotify’ Badge To Tackle AI Music And Boost Artist Transparency

Spotify has introduced a new “Verified by Spotify” badge for artist profiles, aimed at helping listeners identify authentic creators and combat the rise of AI-generated music and impersonation.

The feature, announced as part of a wider push for transparency on the platform, will begin rolling out in the coming weeks. It adds a visible trust signal to artist profiles and search results, alongside new data-driven insights into artist activity.

What the Verified by Spotify badge means

The new badge confirms that an artist profile has been reviewed and meets Spotify’s internal criteria for authenticity. According to the company, verification is based on a combination of platform data and human review.

Artists eligible for the badge must demonstrate:

  • Consistent listener engagement over time, not just short-term spikes
  • Compliance with Spotify’s platform policies
  • Evidence of a real-world artist presence, including live shows, merchandise, and linked social profiles

At launch, profiles that primarily represent AI-generated or virtual artists are not eligible for verification.

Rollout and scale across the platform

Spotify said the badge will appear on artist profiles and in search results, marked by a light green check icon and “Verified by Spotify” label.

The company confirmed that more than 99% of artists that users actively search for will be verified at launch, covering hundreds of thousands of acts across genres, markets, and career stages. This includes a majority of independent artists.

Verification will continue on an ongoing basis, meaning artists without the badge now may receive it later.

New artist profile insights and context features

Alongside verification, Spotify is introducing a new section within artist profiles that highlights key activity and career data. This includes:

  • Release history and recent activity
  • Touring and live performance signals
  • Career milestones and engagement patterns

These features will appear in the “About” section on mobile and are designed to give listeners more context beyond the music itself.

The update builds on recent product launches such as SongDNA, expanded credits, AI attribution tools, and “About the Song”, all part of Spotify’s broader effort to increase transparency around how music is made and distributed.

Why Spotify is focusing on authenticity

The move comes as AI-generated music and voice cloning continue to scale across streaming platforms and social media. By introducing clearer signals of authenticity, Spotify is positioning itself to help users distinguish between human artists and synthetic or automated content.

The company said it will continue refining the system as the definition of “authenticity” evolves in a rapidly changing music landscape.
