The Total Eclipse of the Heart singer was admitted to a hospital in Faro in the Algarve region, where she owns a home.

Statement confirms surgery and recovery

An update posted on Wednesday 6 May 2026 confirmed the operation had been successful and that Tyler is now recuperating.

“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,”

“The surgery went well, and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”

No official medical details were provided beyond the statement.

Reports suggest perforated intestine

According to the Daily Mail, Tyler is believed to have suffered a perforated intestine after reportedly experiencing severe abdominal pain in recent days. The claim has not been publicly confirmed by her representatives.

European tour due to begin this month

The health scare comes shortly before Tyler’s planned European tour, which is scheduled to begin in Malta on 22 May.

It remains unclear whether the surgery will affect upcoming tour dates.

Singer recently spoke about staying healthy on tour

In an interview with HELLO! earlier this year, Tyler discussed continuing to perform live and said she was enjoying touring.

“I’m fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I’m really enjoying doing the shows,”

“I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything.”

Tyler, best known for hits including Holding Out for a Hero and Total Eclipse of the Heart, has remained an active touring artist for decades.
