Katy Perry with World Cup

Katy Perry has been confirmed as one of the headline performers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Inglewood.

The ceremony will take place at SoFi Stadium on 12 June ahead of the United States’ opening match against Paraguay, marking the start of the expanded 48-team tournament hosted across the US, Canada and Mexico.

FIFA has also confirmed performances from Future, Anitta, Lisa, Rema and Tyla as part of the pre-match celebrations.

FIFA confirms multi-country opening ceremonies for first time

The 2026 tournament will make FIFA history by staging multiple opening ceremonies across all three host nations.

Alongside the Los Angeles event, separate celebrations are planned in Toronto and Mexico City across 11 and 12 June.

Gianni Infantino said:

“This opening ceremony in Los Angeles represents the extraordinary scale of what the FIFA World Cup 2026 will become.

“The lineup of artists reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrancy of its many diasporas, highlighting the nation’s rich influence on music, entertainment and pop culture, while showcasing the power of music to bring people together across the country.”

Alanis Morissette and Michael Bublé lead Canada celebrations

The Canadian opening ceremony in Toronto will feature performances from Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé, Elyanna, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, Vegedream and William Prince.

The performances will precede Canada’s opening fixture against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

J Balvin and Maná set for Mexico city opener

Meanwhile, the Mexico City opening ceremony will include appearances from J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean and Tyla.

Mexico will kick off their campaign against South Africa following the ceremony.

Music remains central to the World Cup spectacle

Music and football have become increasingly intertwined at major international tournaments, with FIFA continuing to lean heavily into global pop culture to broaden the event’s reach.

Katy Perry’s involvement places her alongside previous World Cup performers including Shakira, Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull, whose tournament songs became worldwide hits.
