Dolly Parton’s music has surged up the UK charts following the country music icon’s death at 80, with three of her best-known songs returning to the Official Singles Chart and her greatest hits collection entering the Top 10.
“Jolene” leads the resurgence, re-entering the UK Singles Chart at Number 9 after a 364% week-on-week increase in consumption. The 1973 classic originally peaked at Number 7 in the UK in 1976 and has now accumulated more than 2.1 million UK chart units.
“Jolene” returns to the UK Top 10
Parton’s signature song has received a major boost from renewed interest following her death, more than 50 years after it was first released.
“Jolene” originally reached Number 7 on the UK Singles Chart in 1976. Its latest chart run puts it back inside the UK Top 10, with the song recording a 364% increase in weekly consumption.
The track has now passed 2.1 million UK chart units across its history.
“9 To 5” achieves its highest UK chart position
“9 to 5” has made an even bigger leap, climbing to Number 12 following a 350% increase in weekly consumption.
The 1980 single, written and performed by Parton for the hit film of the same name, has now achieved its first UK Top 40 appearance.
Its original UK peak was Number 47 in 1981, meaning the latest chart position represents a significant new high for the song more than four decades after its original release.
With 2.4 million UK chart units, “9 to 5” is currently Parton’s biggest song in the UK based on total chart units.
“Islands In The Stream” also returns
Parton’s 1983 collaboration with Kenny Rogers, “Islands In The Stream”, has re-entered the UK Singles Chart at Number 13 after a 276% increase in consumption.
The duet originally reached Number 7 in the UK in 1984 and has accumulated 2.2 million UK chart units.
The song is also among Parton’s three most-streamed tracks in the UK, alongside “9 to 5” and “Jolene”.
Together, the three songs now represent the biggest streaming successes from Parton’s catalogue in the UK.
Dolly Parton’s greatest hits album reaches the UK Top 10
The renewed interest in Parton’s music has also extended to the Official Albums Chart.
Diamonds & Rhinestones: The Greatest Hits Collection has climbed to Number 6, comfortably beating its previous peak of Number 32.
The compilation has now secured its first week inside the UK Top 10, giving Parton another significant posthumous chart milestone.
The album spans Parton’s career and includes many of the songs that have helped establish her as one of the most recognisable figures in country music.
