East 17 will celebrate their 35th anniversary with a new greatest hits collection, The Best Of East 17, arriving on 4 December 2026. The release features remastered versions of the British boy band’s biggest songs, a new megamix and an expanded edition packed with remixes and restored music videos.
The collection arrives just in time for Christmas, giving fans a chance to revisit the group’s catalogue, including their festive classic Stay Another Day, which topped the UK singles chart in December 1994.
Founded by Tony Mortimer in 1991 alongside Brian Harvey, Terry Coldwell and John Hendy, East 17 became one of the defining British pop acts of the 1990s. Their hits included House Of Love, Deep, It’s Alright and Steam.
What’s included on The Best Of East 17?
The Best Of East 17 will be available on CD and vinyl, with an expanded two-disc edition offering additional material for longtime fans.
The collection includes newly remastered versions of the group’s best-known tracks, alongside a special megamix created by The Alias.
The expanded edition adds 10 remastered remixes and 16 restored official music videos. It will also feature previously unseen photography by Lawrence Watson, whose work includes documenting New York’s hip-hop scene during the 1980s.
The release brings together East 17’s pop hits and dance-oriented remixes, reflecting the different sounds that helped the group build their following during the 1990s.
All formats of The Best Of East 17 are available to pre-order ahead of its 4 December release.
Stay Another Day remains East 17’s Christmas classic
No East 17 collection would be complete without Stay Another Day, the emotional ballad that became the group’s biggest UK chart success when it reached number one at Christmas in 1994.
Written by Mortimer, the song has remained a seasonal radio favourite for three decades. Its continued popularity has also provided a lasting connection between the songwriter and the band’s audience.
Speaking to the Daily Star in 2024, Mortimer reflected on the track’s ongoing success.
“They still play it on the radio, and I’m grateful.
“It doesn’t make me billions, unfortunately, in case you wondered! But it always puts a bit of food on the table and some petrol money, definitely.
“It’s not a million a year, or whatever.”
Mortimer has previously explained that the song was written following the death of his brother, Ollie, who died by suicide. He has stressed that the song’s significance extends beyond its commercial success.
“It’s about the song, and the recognition of people loving it, and the fact that it’s going 30 years later.”
Its place in British Christmas music has endured, making the song a natural centrepiece for a greatest hits collection arriving at the start of December.
East 17 reunion plans remain uncertain
Despite the anniversary release, Mortimer has previously said there are no plans for an East 17 reunion, explaining that he and his former bandmates have not spoken for several years.
Discussing the breakdown in their relationship, he said:
“Me, Terry and John were in a record company, and that, kind of, ended badly with the company. So, we haven’t really spoken since then.
“I think East 17 is viewed by the outside as a living thing, but it doesn’t really exist anymore, but with us.
“Obviously the name does, and Stay Another Day always brings it back every year… We’ll always be joined by it. It’s weird.”
The comments suggest that The Best Of East 17 is a celebration of the group’s musical legacy rather than a signal that the original line-up is preparing to return.
