Céline Dion made an emotional return to the stage on Saturday 12 September 2026 as she opened her 26-date residency at Paris La Défense Arena, marking a major live comeback after stepping away from performing while managing stiff person syndrome.
The singer became visibly emotional during the opening night, fighting back tears as she performed for the Paris crowd.
Video shared on Instagram by a concertgoer showed Dion singing through tears as the audience applauded her return.
At one point, the Grammy-winning singer addressed the emotion directly, telling the crowd:
“I promised not to cry. Tonight I want to sing for you, for me, for life.”
She continued:
“Finally. It’s amazing we’re all together. I made a promise. I made a promise to come back and be back on stage.”
Dion then thanked her fans for their patience and continued support before performing a heartfelt version of her 1996 hit “Because You Loved Me”.

The singer was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in December 2022, a rare neurological condition that can cause severe muscle stiffness and spasms.
