Doja Cat Confirms New Album ‘Vie’ Will Blend 70s And 80s Vibes With A Modern Edge

Doja Cat’s next era is here, and it’s dripping with retro flair and bold experimentation.

The multi-platinum artist has officially teased her highly anticipated new album, ‘Vie’, promising a dynamic fusion of 1970s and 1980s-inspired sounds with modern production twists. The follow-up to 2023’s Scarlet is set to showcase a fresh sonic direction that pays tribute to vintage influences while pushing creative boundaries.

Doja Cat on Her New Sound: “Fully Encapsulating That Time”

Speaking on 102.7 KIIS FM in Los Angeles, Doja Cat opened up about her ambitious musical pivot:

“I’m really punching my foot through the wall into that situation,” she said. “I want to really fully encapsulate that time and still give it some modern twists here and there.”

Fans can expect a genre-bending mix that integrates jazz, neo soul, indie, experimental, and rock elements—all filtered through Doja’s signature creative lens.

Album Tracklist Teasers: Doja’s Favorite Songs Revealed

Back in November, Doja Cat briefly shared a 13-track list from Vie on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting five personal favorites:

  • ‘Cards’
  • ‘Acts Of Service’
  • ‘Make It Up’
  • ‘Did I Lie’
  • ‘Crack’

While the post was later deleted, fans were quick to screenshot the teaser, fueling speculation and hype across social media.

From Pop to Purpose: A New Chapter for Doja Cat

In a candid conversation with fellow artist Jack Harlow for Present Space, the 29-year-old rapper and singer explained her desire to move away from formulaic hits and explore music with more depth and authenticity.

“I’ve done songs in the past just to be popular,” she admitted. “Now, I want to start going in a different direction sonically… that isn’t just supposed to woo younger fans or protect my pockets.”

Doja also expressed her passion for more niche and critically underrepresented genres:

“I really love jazz, neo soul, and different kinds of rock music and experimental sounds… I want to swirl a lot of different sounds together.”

‘Scarlet’ Was Just the Beginning

With Scarlet, Doja Cat made a bold move away from conventional pop, leaning more heavily into hip-hop and R&B. With Vie, she’s doubling down on her commitment to artistic evolution.

While no official release date for Vie has been announced, all signs point to a groundbreaking new chapter in Doja Cat’s already genre-defying career.
