Ella Langley has broken Mariah Carey’s record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, with “Choosin’ Texas” spending its 23rd week at the top of the US singles chart this week. The country star’s hit now holds the record for the longest-running No. 1 in the chart’s history, overtaking Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, which had spent 22 weeks at No. 1.
Ella Langley makes Billboard Hot 100 history
“Choosin’ Texas” first reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February and has subsequently returned to the summit multiple times.
The song was written by Langley alongside Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor. Billboard previously reported that the track became the first song to simultaneously top the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts.
Langley previously spoke about the song’s unprecedented run in an interview with Backstage Country.
“This genuinely has shocked me to my core.”
She also discussed the achievement with co-writer Miranda Lambert:
“I was talking to Miranda the other night. I mean, this is groundbreaking territory for all of us, all the writers on the song, everyone included. And it’s just crazy to see how many different people love this song, and why they love this song.”
Mariah Carey could challenge the record again
Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” had previously held the Billboard Hot 100 record with 22 weeks at No. 1.
The Christmas classic has a regular seasonal resurgence on the chart, meaning Carey could have another opportunity to reclaim the record when holiday listening accelerates later this year. The song has repeatedly returned to No. 1 during the Christmas season since first topping the Hot 100 in 2019.
For now, however, Langley holds the record with 23 weeks.
Ella Langley leads 2026 CMA Awards nominations
Langley’s Billboard success comes as she prepares for the 60th CMA Awards, where she leads all nominees with nine nominations.
Her nominations include Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year for Dandelion, Female Vocalist of the Year and Music Video of the Year. “Choosin’ Texas” and “Be Her” are both nominated for Single of the Year and Song of the Year.
Langley also receives a Musical Event of the Year nomination for “I Can’t Love You Anymore”, her collaboration with Morgan Wallen.
The 60th CMA Awards will take place at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Wednesday 18 November 2026, with the ceremony airing live on ABC and streaming on Disney+.
“Choosin’ Texas” heads into awards season
The Billboard record adds another major achievement to a year in which Langley has continued to expand her presence beyond country radio.
The song’s 23-week Hot 100 run places it ahead of Carey’s holiday standard in the all-time chart record, while its continued recognition at the CMA Awards gives Langley another major milestone to follow later this year.
