Jake Bugg has announced his new album Alamo, describing the record as his most vulnerable work yet after what he calls a difficult “last couple of years”. The 32-year-old Nottingham singer-songwriter will release the 11-track album as the follow-up to 2024’s A Modern Day Distraction, with lead single “Never Can Tell” introducing the new era.
Bugg, who broke through with “Lightning Bolt” in 2012 after being tipped as the next Bob Dylan, said the new album gave him an opportunity to confront struggles he had previously kept behind “defenses and barriers”.

After years of touring and recording, Bugg said he felt ready to look more closely at his personal experiences while making Alamo.
“After all the years of touring and making records, it just felt like the right time to look inward. The last couple of years have been tough for me and I’ve had a lot of struggles. I’m trying to navigate those and figure out where they stem from.”
He said the album could only work if he was prepared to be open about those experiences.
“Alamo was only going to work if I was going to be honest and be as vulnerable as possible. I’ve always had a lot of defenses and barriers around me. I thought it was time to bring those down.”
The result is described as a return to Bugg’s folk-leaning roots, with country and roots influences running through the album’s arrangements.
“Never Can Tell” explores trust and suspicion
The album’s lead single, “Never Can Tell”, focuses on the difficulty of knowing who to trust, drawing on Bugg’s experiences growing up and his instinct to remain alert to the intentions of people around him.
Bugg said:
“It’s really f***** hard to know who to trust in this day and age, especially growing up how I did and having to be vigilant and observant of the people around you.”
He described the song as being about uncertainty and following instinct when other people offer conflicting advice.
“The song is about that. Life throws so many parallels at you and it’s hard to know which way to go. People tell you different things and you’ve just got to go with what your gut tells you.”
What to expect from Jake Bugg’s Alamo
Alamo contains 11 tracks and moves back towards the folk and country influences that have been present throughout Bugg’s career.
The album’s description presents it as a more open and mature record, exploring themes including love, loneliness and relationships through stripped-back songwriting and country-rooted arrangements.
“Day By Day” is described as a finger-picking, Dylan- and Leonard Cohen-inspired roots song, while the opening track, “When The Night”, begins with a question about isolation and where it can lead.
The title track examines the pain of a relationship falling apart.
Together, the songs suggest a record built around personal reflection rather than the more outward-facing approach of some of Bugg’s previous work.
Jake Bugg announces 2027 UK and European tour
Bugg will support Alamo with a series of stripped-back shows across the UK and Europe in February 2027.
The tour begins in Manchester on 6 February 2026 before travelling through 10 UK and Ireland dates. The itinerary includes a hometown performance at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall before concluding at London’s Union Chapel on 26 February.

Jake Bugg heads to Nashville for AmericanaFest
Before the new album campaign gets fully underway, Bugg is heading to Nashville for a headline performance at Musicians Corner in Centennial Park on 18 September as part of AmericanaFest.
The appearance gives Bugg an opportunity to showcase his roots-focused songwriting ahead of the release and his 2027 tour.
For an artist who first emerged as a teenage guitar player with a reputation for classic songwriting influences, Alamo represents a more introspective stage of Bugg’s career.
