Sean Ono Lennon has become a father for the first time, announcing the birth of his son Aurelius with longtime partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl on Tuesday 1 September 2026.
The 50-year-old musician shared the news on Instagram, posting photographs of himself and Muhl with their newborn son. The couple have been together since 2007 and perform together as the musical duo The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.

Lennon announced the arrival of his son with a photograph of himself and Muhl cradling the newborn.
“@charlottekempmuhl and I have created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius! Thank you!”
He also shared a photograph of himself holding Aurelius, along with an image of 39-year-old Muhl sitting with their son in a hospital bed.

Muhl also marked the birth on Instagram, offering a characteristically unconventional take on becoming a parent.
“We made a human! Am convinced DNA is agentic alien quaternary code. The sleep deprivation only adds to the surrealism… Burping technique tips welcome. Been playing him Aphex Twin and Stravinsky. Meconium (a baby’s first poop) is crazy.”
Sean Ono Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl have been together since 2007
Lennon and Muhl began dating in 2007 and have worked together extensively as musicians.
The pair formed The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, also known as The GOASTT, combining Lennon’s songwriting with Muhl’s work as a model and musician.
Their musical partnership has included recordings and live performances, although Lennon has also maintained a career as a producer, songwriter and solo artist.
The birth of Aurelius marks a new chapter for the couple, who have generally kept their personal lives away from the spotlight despite Lennon’s connection to one of the most famous families in music history.
Aurelius is John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s only grandchild
Aurelius is the only grandchild of artist Yoko Ono and the late Beatles member John Lennon.
John Lennon was murdered in New York in December 1980 at the age of 40. Sean was five years old at the time.
Sean was born to Lennon and Ono in 1975, on his father’s 35th birthday. His older half-brother, Julian Lennon, is John Lennon’s son from his previous marriage to Cynthia Lennon.
The arrival of Aurelius therefore marks the next generation of the Lennon family and makes Sean a first-time father.
Sean Lennon on protecting John Lennon and The Beatles’ legacy
Although Sean has rarely discussed his famous parents publicly, he has spoken about his role in preserving their artistic legacy.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning broadcast in December 2025, Lennon said he sees himself as helping introduce his father’s work and The Beatles to younger generations.
“Obviously, the world is also the custodian of (Lennon’s) legacy, I would say. I’m just doing my best to help make sure that the younger generation doesn’t forget about The Beatles and John and Yoko. That’s how I look at it.”
