Kacey Musgraves has responded with a cheeky comeback after a fan criticised the enormous, anatomically correct testicle-shaped disco balls featured during her Middle Of Nowhere Tour.
The 38-year-old country star launched the tour in Chicago on 21 August 2026, with two giant glittering props becoming one of the most talked-about elements of her new live show.
One fan made their feelings clear in the comments of an Instagram post shared by Musgraves from the tour.
“I can’t get behind the large testicles I’m sorry.”
Musgraves responded:
“Well, maybe you can get in front of them.”
Kacey Musgraves rides giant sparkly props during Rhinestoned
The oversized props feature during Musgraves’ performance of “Rhinestoned”, with the singer riding around on the giant glittering structures.
According to People, Musgraves has also joked about the elaborate stage setup during the shows.
“This is what it looks like when no one tells me no.”
The eight-time Grammy winner has continued to embrace the more outrageous side of the production, including during a performance attended by her grandmother, known affectionately as Nana.
Musgraves’ grandmother has heard the jokes too
With Nana in the audience at one show, Musgraves joked about the size of her stage props and the nerve required to use them as part of the production.
“It takes a lot of balls to get up here and do what I do every night. It takes two gigantic, anatomically correct sparkly balls.”
She then addressed her grandmother directly.
“I’ve actually got my Nana in the house tonight, and she always told me, ‘Honey, if you’re gonna do something, do it big, do it sparkly.’”
Musgraves followed with:
“Nana, is this what you had in mind?”
Kacey Musgraves’ Dry Spell video caused a family scare
One of the album’s more provocative songs is “Dry Spell”, which Musgraves has said explores a subject she had not previously addressed in her music.
Speaking to People, she joked about her grandmother’s reaction to the song’s lyrics.
“I’ve never talked about self-pleasure before. So that’s a first for me: ‘Sitting on the washing machine.’ It’s not my grandma’s favourite line, but it’s mine, I guess.”
The song’s music video also features sexual imagery, including an opening shot of Musgraves holding an eggplant.
During filming, however, the singer received a worrying message from her father informing her that Nana had been taken to hospital after experiencing an “extreme high blood pressure incident”.
Musgraves said she immediately left the shoot and became emotional while speaking to her family.
“I don’t know if she’ll laugh. Actually, in the middle of filming the video, I got a text from my dad that Nana had to be rushed to the hospital: She had a really scary, extreme high blood pressure incident.”
She continued:
“So I had to leave, and I was on the call, crying, like, ‘If Nana lives, she’s gonna hate this video!’”
