Sam Smith has partnered with BBC Introducing to give emerging artists the chance to open their 2026 UK residency shows in Manchester and London.
The nationwide search, announced on BBC Radio 1’s New Music Show with Jack Saunders, opens on 29 July 2026, with ten unsigned or emerging acts set to win support slots across Smith’s autumn residency dates.
How to apply for Sam Smith’s BBC Introducing competition
Artists can submit their original music through the BBC Introducing Uploader between 29 July and 5 August 2026.
Applicants must select the “Sam Smith” tag during the submission process to be considered.
A panel from BBC Introducing will review entries and produce a shortlist before Sam Smith personally chooses the ten successful artists.
In addition to performing at the residency shows, the selected acts will receive editorial support and promotion across BBC Introducing platforms.
Sam Smith’s Hazel Eyes residency begins in September
The competition comes ahead of the release of Smith’s fifth studio album, Hazel Eyes, which is scheduled for release on 21 August 2026.
The accompanying UK residency begins on 3 September 2026, opening with two nights at Albert Hall, Manchester, before moving to the London Coliseum for an eight-night run.
Supporting the next generation of artists
Speaking about the partnership, Smith said they were looking forward to discovering new talent and helping emerging musicians reach wider audiences.
BBC Music Director Lorna Clarke said the collaboration reflects the broadcaster’s commitment to supporting both established artists and the next generation of musicians.
BBC Introducing Editor Kelly Betts also described the initiative as an opportunity to provide a significant platform for rising UK talent.
Part of the BBC’s Summer Of Music 2026
The collaboration forms part of the BBC’s Summer of Music 2026 programming, which includes live festival coverage, documentaries and special music broadcasts across the network.
BBC Introducing has played a significant role in the careers of several major artists, including Ed Sheeran, RAYE and Lewis Capaldi, making it one of the UK’s best-known platforms for discovering new music.
