Travis Scott has revealed that Oasis and Van Halen are among the biggest influences on his upcoming album, as the rapper looks beyond hip hop in search of bigger choruses and stadium-sized sounds.
Speaking to Variety, Scott discussed the follow-up to his 2023 chart-topping album Utopia, explaining that his recent listening habits have shaped the direction of the new record.
Oasis and Van Halen helped shape the new sound
During the interview, Scott, who was wearing a faded Oasis T-shirt, said he has been drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists while developing the album.
He told Variety he has been listening to Parliament, Oasis, Daft Punk, Don Toliver and Van Halen, citing their “mega-choruses and hard bass lines” as key influences on the project.
Scott has yet to reveal a title or release date for the album.

The rapper said his latest music has been influenced by the experience of performing to huge crowds, with a focus on connecting with fans throughout the venue.
“I’m like, OK, I need to double down on trying to make something that can reach the person that’s all the way back in the bowl.
“So how do I reach them like the person that’s right next to me. So that’s what I’m on, trying to elevate the show to a more theatre aspect.”
Fans recently spotted Scott carrying an iPod attached to his waistband while attending a FIFA World Cup match in Houston with his children, Stormi and Aire, leading to speculation that he has been keeping demos for the new album close at hand.
Grammy success remains on Travis Scott’s wishlist
Although Scott has received multiple Grammy nominations throughout his career, he is still waiting to win his first award.
Reflecting on the recognition, he admitted earning a Grammy remains one of his personal goals.
“I like to set goals, and I just want to achieve them.
“I noticed the people that get them always have that like, ‘It doesn’t matter’ attitude. To me, the award represents something, and to achieve that would be amazing.”
The rapper also has his sights set on Hollywood
Following his appearance in The Odyssey and recording the film’s end credits song, Scott said he hopes to build a bigger acting career alongside his music.
“I still need a Grammy, but I would love to take home an Oscar. That’d be cool.
“I would love to act more. I respect the true talents of the people that wake up every day and really grind.”
Scott’s next album will follow Utopia, which debuted at Number One on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified double platinum in the United States.
