Victoria Beckham has revealed that the Spice Girls have discussed launching a hologram show inspired by ABBA’s Voyage residency.
Speaking on SiriusXM, Beckham said the idea had come up in conversation among the group, suggesting it could offer a new way to revisit their catalogue without a traditional tour.
“I think it would be a great idea.
“The principle of it would be great.
“We were talking about it at dinner, but we’ll see.”
Hologram show could follow abba voyage model
The concept mirrors ABBA Voyage, which uses digital avatars of the band to perform in a purpose-built venue. The show has become a major commercial success, opening up legacy acts to new audiences without the demands of touring.
The Spice Girls line-up includes Emma Bunton, Mel B, Geri Horner and Melanie C alongside Beckham.
Their former manager Simon Fuller has previously explored the idea, having been involved in developing the ABBA Voyage concept.
Reunion tour ruled out ahead of 30th anniversary
The discussion comes as the group prepares to mark 30 years since the release of Wannabe and their debut album Spice. However, a full reunion tour has already been ruled out.
Mel B addressed the speculation in an interview with HELLO!:
“I can tell you it’s not happening.”
She added:
“If it does, it’ll be a shock to me, let’s put it that way. When I look at that (tour) and at the feeling it gave me, I was in my element, but there comes a time… I’m 50.
“You can’t be nagging everyone to go on tour if they don’t want to. I laid that to rest when I turned 50.”
Differing views on documentary plans
Alongside live performance discussions, the group have also been approached about a potential documentary project, although agreement on how it should be handled has yet to be reached.
Mel B said:
“I think we’ve all been asked and were all thinking about it at some point.
“It has to be done in the right way.
“It has to be honest – and not everybody wants to be honest.”
Recent reunions remain informal
Recent activity has seen some members reunite socially rather than professionally. Beckham, Bunton, Horner and Melanie C gathered earlier this year to celebrate Bunton’s 50th birthday, while Mel B marked the occasion separately.
With a traditional reunion tour off the table, a hologram show remains one of the few options being discussed that could bring the Spice Girls back together in some form, particularly as they approach a major milestone anniversary.
