ZAYN was forced to duck after a bottle was thrown towards him following a fan event in Kingston, with videos of the incident quickly spreading across social media.
The former One Direction star had appeared at Circuit in partnership with Banquet Records on Thursday night for a special listening session previewing tracks from his upcoming album KONNAKOL.
Footage shared online appeared to show an audience member shouting abuse before throwing water bottles in Malik’s direction as he exited the venue. One bottle reportedly struck a staff member instead, prompting security to immediately intervene and escort the singer away from the crowd.
The atmosphere at the event had reportedly become tense earlier in the evening after Malik arrived several hours late, frustrating some attendees waiting outside the venue.
Despite that, many fans condemned the behaviour online and expressed concern for the singer’s safety.
“I was disappointed that Zayn was late but actually attacking him is crazy.”
Another attendee described the night as chaotic after the singer’s first major public appearance since his recent health scare.
“First public appearance since being hospitalised, showed up late, debuted a face tattoo, did 6/7, got a snow leopard plush, got attacked and walked it off.”
The appearance marked one of Malik’s first public fan events since recently revealing he had been hospitalised due to an undisclosed health issue, which forced him to scale back dates on his upcoming tour.
The singer is preparing to launch The KONNAKOL Tour later this month following the recent release of a deluxe edition of the album featuring three additional tracks.
