Charli XCX Calls Wuthering Heights soundtrack work “Heavenly” at UK premiere

Charli XCX has described creating the soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights film as a “heavenly” experience. The pop artist spoke at the movie’s UK premiere in London on 5 February 2026, where she discussed working on the drama inspired by Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel.

The 33-year-old musician revealed that the project appealed to her because it contrasted with her usual creative direction. The soundtrack connects literary and gothic influences with modern pop production, drawing from artists and sounds that shaped her early musical tastes.

Speaking to the BBC at the premiere, Charli said:

“I always like to work with polar opposites, and so this was honestly a dream project for me.”

She also referenced the creative influences that helped shape the score.

“When I first started making music, I was so inspired by, you know, so many of the references that Emerald and I were talking about, like Shakespears Sister to The Cure to, obviously, Kate Bush … So this was, yeah, it was really heavenly to work on this.”

Charli XCX discusses acting role in The Moment

Alongside her soundtrack work, Charli is preparing to appear in The Moment, a mockumentary exploring a fictionalised version of her life and career. The film follows an alternative timeline of her journey as an artist.

Speaking during a Q&A event in Brooklyn, Charli explained the character concept:

“I play — I hope — a slightly different version of my real self in this film. I don’t think I’m quite that much of a nightmare the whole time, but I wouldn’t really be the best person to ask about that.”

She also described how the storyline explores paths her career could have taken.

“The thing about the Charli in the film is all of the scenarios that my character in the film goes through could have happened if I made slightly different decisions in my own life and in my own career.”

“Obviously I assume that most of you here know that this is not what happened when it came to Brat and going on tour and things like that.”

Charli released her album Brat in 2024, which forms part of the real-life career timeline referenced in the film.
