Pale Waves have confirmed that guitarist Hugo Silvani has left the band after ten years. The announcement was shared by the group on social media, marking the end of his time with the Manchester indie-pop act that began in 2015.

Silvani played on all four of the band’s studio albums, including their most recent release Smitten in 2024, and was part of the group’s sound as they moved from early goth-pop releases to a more alt-rock direction. His final recorded contribution with the band is a cover of The Cranberries classic “Zombie”.

Band statement confirms departure

In a message posted online, the remaining members, frontwoman Heather Baron-Gracie, drummer Ciara Doran and bassist Charlie Wood, addressed the news directly:

“It’s with sadness that we are announcing Hugo’s departure from Pale Waves. The last decade together has been filled with memories that will last a lifetime. We are forever grateful for Hugo’s role in this band and the music we have created together. Although we will miss him dearly, we wish him the best on his new adventures. With love, Ciara, Heather and Charlie xx.”

The group did not outline the reasons behind the change or confirm Silvani’s next move. Based on the statement, the split appears to be on good terms.

What happens next for the band

Pale Waves are expected to continue as a trio for now. No replacement guitarist has been announced for upcoming shows or future recording plans.

The update comes shortly after the band were confirmed for Bludfest, the festival organised by Yungblud, which is scheduled for 27 June in Hradec Králové, Czechia.

Other artists on the lineup include Biffy Clyro, Primal Scream, Bambie Thug, Jesse Jo Stark, Nieve Ella and Pam Rabbit.
