Mick Jagger has delighted fans with an unexpected pub performance in Oxford, joining local musicians for an impromptu folk session at the Half Moon in St Clements.

According to the pub, Jagger arrived after spending the evening at Oriel College with his partner, Melanie Hamrick.

The couple attended Evensong at the college chapel before joining guests for dinner at the college’s high table.

A statement from Oriel College explained what happened next.

“After dinner and drinks in the SCR (Senior Common Room) a small group went off to the pub where Mick gave an impromptu performance with Rolling Stones keyboard player Matt Clifford and Oriel Politics academic Robert Cheah.”

During the informal performance, Jagger reportedly sang the traditional folk song Handsome Molly.

The song holds a special place in his solo catalogue, having previously appeared on his 1993 album Wandering Spirit.

Witnesses described the atmosphere as relaxed and informal, with Jagger blending into the session before taking part in the music.
