Sam Fender And Olivia Dean Make UK Chart History As ‘Rein Me In’ Breaks 35-Year Record

Sam Fender and Olivia Dean

Sam Fender and Olivia Dean have made UK chart history after their collaboration Rein Me In secured a 17th non-consecutive week at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart.

The milestone sees the track surpass Bryan Adams’ 1991 hit (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, which spent 16 consecutive weeks at the top of the UK chart. Rein Me In now holds the record for the second-longest-running UK Number 1 single of all time.

The achievement also leaves Fender and Dean just one week away from equalling the all-time UK record held by Frankie Laine’s I Believe, which spent 18 weeks at Number 1 in 1953.

Rein Me In continues its remarkable chart run

Since its release, Rein Me In has become one of the defining songs of the year, maintaining its position at the top of the Official Singles Chart across multiple non-consecutive weeks.

Unlike Bryan Adams’ chart run, which remained at Number 1 for 16 consecutive weeks in 1991, Rein Me In has returned to the summit several times, underlining its enduring popularity with UK listeners.

Only one record now stands ahead

With 17 weeks at Number 1, Sam Fender and Olivia Dean now sit alone in second place on the list of the longest-running UK Number 1 singles.

The current all-time record remains:

  1. Frankie Laine – I Believe (18 weeks, 1953)
  2. Sam Fender & Olivia Dean – Rein Me In (17 weeks, non-consecutive)
  3. Bryan Adams – (Everything I Do) I Do It For You (16 weeks, consecutive)

If Rein Me In remains at Number 1 for another week, it will equal a record that has stood for more than 70 years.
