Sam Fender and Olivia Dean have broken one of the longest-standing records in British chart history, with their collaboration Rein Me In becoming the longest-running Official UK Number 1 single ever.
The song has now spent 19 non-consecutive weeks at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart, surpassing the previous record of 18 weeks set by Frankie Laine’s I Believe in 1953. The achievement marks the first time the 73-year-old record has been broken.
Rein Me In sets a new official chart record
Released through Polydor Label Group, Rein Me In first entered the Official Singles Chart in June 2025 before climbing to Number 1 in February 2026.
Although it was briefly displaced by singles from Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo and Ariana Grande during its chart run, the track repeatedly returned to the summit, accumulating a record-breaking 19 weeks at Number 1 across eight months.
The milestone cements Rein Me In as the longest-running Number 1 single in the history of the Official UK Singles Chart.
Sam Fender reacts to the record-breaking achievement
To celebrate the occasion, the Official Charts Company presented Sam Fender with an Official Chart Record Breaker Award.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Fender said:
“Completely lost for words, thank you so much to Olivia Dean and the fans for making this song the juggernaut that it is. Can’t believe we broke the UK record!”
Previous Number 1 records have been surpassed
With 19 weeks at Number 1, Rein Me In moves ahead of several iconic chart records.
The previous benchmark belonged to Frankie Laine’s I Believe, which held the record for 73 years. The new milestone also eclipses the 16-week runs achieved by Wet Wet Wet’s Love Is All Around and Bryan Adams’ (Everything I Do) I Do It For You.
