Dolly Parton has cancelled her planned Las Vegas residency, confirming the shows will no longer go ahead as she continues treatment following an illness first disclosed in October 2025.
The country icon shared the update in an Instagram Reel on Monday 4 May 2026, explaining that while her condition is improving, she is not yet ready to return to live performance.
Dolly Parton says recovery is progressing but slow
Parton began by outlining both positive and difficult aspects of her current health situation:
“Well, hey there, it’s Dolly, and I’m here to give you an update on a few things going on in my life.”
“I have some good news and a little bad news. But the good news is I’m responding really well to meds and treatments, and I’m improving every day. Now, the bad news is that it’s gonna take me a little while before I’m up to stage performance level because some of the meds and treatments make me a little swimmy-headed, as my grandma used to say.”
The residency had originally been postponed late last year, but this latest update confirms it has now been cancelled entirely.
‘Rebuilding the engine’ metaphor for health
Using a characteristically humorous tone, Parton compared her recovery to restoring a classic car:
“When they raised the hood on this old antique, they realised that I need to rebuild my engine and that my transmission is slipping, my oil pan is leaking, my muffler’s busted and my shocks and pistons need to be replaced. And for sure, my spark plugs need to be changed, because you know, as well as I know, that I can’t lose my spark,”
She added:
“Anyway, I know I’m being silly, but I’m just tryin’ to keep everything light and airy,”
Continuing work despite cancelled shows
Despite stepping back from live performances, Parton confirmed she remains active across multiple projects. She is continuing to record music, create video content and prepare for upcoming ventures in Nashville, including a new museum and hotel.
She is also working on Dolly: A True Original Musical, which is scheduled to debut on Broadway later this year.
Las Vegas residency plans halted
The cancelled residency had been set for Las Vegas, one of the key global hubs for long-running artist residencies. No rescheduled dates have been announced.
Parton’s update suggests her focus remains on recovery before returning to the stage, with no confirmed timeline for future live performances.
