Sir Elton John is bringing his acclaimed Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour back for two nights only, announcing special performances at Banorte Stadium in Mexico City on 2 and 3 October 2026. The concerts will allow the music legend to finally say goodbye to Mexican fans after the Latin American leg of his farewell tour was cancelled in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 79-year-old shared the news on Instagram, describing the return as an emotional moment.
“I am excited to announce that I will be performing two nights at Banorte Stadium on 2 and 3 October.
“Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart. I was truly disappointed that the pandemic kept me from touring Latin America during my Farewell tour which makes this return especially meaningful. I’m thrilled to finally share this very special moment with my fans after all these years…
“Rocket Club members can register now for early access, join now via the link in my bio. Artist presale begins Wednesday, July 15 at 12pm local time in Mexico City.”
Tickets for both shows go on general sale on 16 July at 12pm local time.
Elton John returns to the farewell tour after more than 300 shows
Elton officially retired from touring in 2023 after completing the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which spanned more than 300 shows across the globe and became one of the highest-grossing concert tours in music history.
The newly announced Mexico City performances mark a rare return to the stage under the Farewell Yellow Brick Road banner and will serve as the final chapter of a tour that has defined the closing years of his live career.
Elton John reveals new album inspired by eyesight challenges
Although he has stepped away from extensive touring, Elton recently revealed that he has completed a new studio album. The project emerged after a serious eye condition forced him to completely rethink his songwriting process.
Speaking while accepting the Glenn Gould Prize in Toronto in May, he explained:
“I’ve had eye trouble recently and I always make records by looking at lyrics and writing to lyrics, and so I’m kind of f***** at the moment.”
The health setback unexpectedly sparked a new creative approach.
“What my eye has given me is a chance of, at 80 years of age, completely reversing how I write. I’m writing melodies first, and lyrics coming second. I’ve never done that. And I’ve just done it.”
Elton said the experience led to one of the most distinctive records of his career.
“I’ve just done an album, which is so different to anything I’ve ever done before, but it’s so happy. I’m so thrilled with it because it’s given me another chance to make music.”
His eyesight problems began in the summer of 2024 after an infection left him blind in his right eye.
Reports suggest Las Vegas hologram residency is in the works
Away from his new music, reports have also linked Elton with an ambitious hologram residency in Las Vegas. The proposed show at the new Hard Rock Hotel is said to use technology even more advanced than the system behind ABBA Voyage and could feature digital appearances from collaborators Dua Lipa and Kiki Dee.
No official announcement has yet been made regarding the reported residency.
