Adele is set to return to the studio to record new music as part of her upcoming acting debut in the film Cry To Heaven.
The 37-year-old will appear in the historical drama directed by Tom Ford, alongside a cast that includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong and Colin Firth.
Adele to record new song for Cry To Heaven
According to reports, Adele will contribute a new track to the film’s soundtrack, marking her first new material since her last major releases. An insider told The Sun:
“The movie is steeped in the opera world, so naturally, they wanted the world’s most famous singer involved.”
“When she finally agreed to record a track, the producers were ecstatic. Getting new material from Adele is like gold dust.”
“But she is absolutely determined to prove she has the acting chops on camera to match her powerhouse vocals.”
The film’s musical direction, rooted in opera, is understood to have played a key role in securing her involvement.
First acting role and return to film soundtracks
This project marks Adele’s first on-screen acting role, expanding her career beyond music after years of global chart success.
She previously recorded the title track for the Skyfall soundtrack in 2012, which became one of her most acclaimed recordings.
Shift towards film over touring
Reports suggest Adele may increasingly focus on film work moving forward, citing the demands of touring compared to a more structured production schedule.
“The plan is very much to focus on film. Though of course, music will always be there in some capacity.”
“The truth is, an acting career is vastly more conducive to family life than being a touring musician.”
Adele has previously spoken openly about her reluctance to tour extensively, instead opting for residency performances such as her Weekends With Adele shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
Speaking on stage in 2024, she said:
“I chose to do a residency maybe because I f****** hate touring.”
“But I chose to do a residency so I could keep his life normal. And I did do that. But I also wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Balancing career and personal life
The singer shares a son, Angelo, with her ex-husband Simon Konecki, and has often prioritised family life when making career decisions.
She also thanked her partner Rich Paul during her final residency shows:
“Thank you for always bigging me up and making me feel like I could do whatever I wanted to do.”
“There’s been times when I’m too tired or I’m too emotionally drained … so I appreciate that.”
With new music on the way and a film debut confirmed, Adele’s next phase looks set to combine both screen and soundtrack.
