Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee has revealed that watching her 11-year-old son discover metal music during the band’s recent tour dates with Metallica was one of the most memorable experiences of her career.
The singer joined Metallica on the M72 World Tour across Australia and New Zealand earlier this year and said seeing the genre through her son’s eyes reminded her of falling in love with music as a child.
Speaking to Loudwire, Lee recalled the emotional moment.
“I got to bring my son, who’s 11 now, just at the perfect age to fall in love with metal.
“They were so great, they were so gracious. You never know how it’s going to be coming into somebody else’s world.”
The experience reached its peak during one of Metallica’s biggest songs.
“Him getting to experience that in the stadium, rain gently starts falling during Nothing Else Matters, I’m just watching his mind go like, ‘I’m in.’
“It was such a good thing for my heart and took me back to being that age and falling in love with music.”
Amy Lee hopes Sanctuary resonates with fans
Lee’s comments arrive as Evanescence prepares to release its sixth studio album, Sanctuary, on 5 June 2026.
The singer believes the record’s lyrical themes will connect with listeners navigating an increasingly uncertain world.
“I feel like we’re in a moment where words are really important, and every single line is an opportunity, it’s a chance to say something that’s going to impact somebody.
“Hopefully, in a positive way, make them feel something, whether it’s feeling understood or not alone in something, or just they’re not alone in the craziness of everything going on in the world right now.
“It’s fucked up and it feels like all of our control is being ripped away.”
Sanctuary marks Evanescence’s first studio album since 2021’s The Bitter Truth and arrives during a period of change for the band.
Jen Majura’s departure remains part of Evanescence’s recent story
The album follows the departure of former guitarist Jen Majura in 2025. At the time, Evanescence described her tenure with the group as an important chapter in the band’s history.
In a statement shared on social media, the band said:
“It has been a very special chapter in the band with our dear friend Jen Majura, but we have decided it’s time to go our separate ways.
“We will always love her and support her, and can’t wait to see what she does next! We are so grateful for the good times and great music we made all around the world together.”
Majura later clarified that leaving the band was not her decision but stressed there was no animosity between the two sides.
“I feel the need to address that none of this was my decision!
“I have no hard feelings against anybody, and I wish Evanescence all the best. I am allowed to carry beautiful memories of these past years, I am grateful.”
The guitarist had previously announced she was stepping away from the music industry for the foreseeable future, citing what she described as the “overwhelming amount of ridiculousness” surrounding the modern music business.
