Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2026 Inductees: Oasis, Joy Division And Billy Idol Reactions

Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame

Peter Hook has said Joy Division’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is “for Ian Curtis,” paying tribute to the band’s late singer ahead of this year’s ceremony.

The bassist confirmed he will attend the 2026 event, which takes place on 14 November at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, as part of a class that includes Oasis, Iron Maiden and Sade.

Peter Hook dedicates honour to Ian Curtis

Hook shared a video message thanking fans and reflecting on the significance of the recognition.

“I’d like to say that this is for Ian Curtis, and for all our fans of both bands. Without you, we would be nothing.”

Curtis died in 1980 at the age of 23, shortly before Joy Division’s rise to global influence.

Long-awaited recognition amid band divisions

The induction follows years of debate around why Joy Division and New Order had not previously been recognised, despite their lasting impact on post-punk and electronic music.

Speaking to NME in 2025, Hook suggested the delay was partly due to tensions between former bandmates and the way fan voting influences the process.

“You’re in a weird situation here, because the camps don’t have any communication and actively don’t like each other.”

“If you check our campaign last time and compare it to the campaign this time, you can see there’s been a lack of enthusiasm on one side.”

Hook played with Joy Division until Curtis’s death, after which the remaining members formed New Order. He left that band in 2007, with a legal dispute over royalties, touring income and naming rights later settled in 2017.

Asked previously about a potential joint appearance, Hook joked:

“offered to put a boxing ring in for us.”

It remains unclear whether other members, including Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris, will attend the ceremony.

Liam Gallagher reacts as Oasis secure induction

Meanwhile, Liam Gallagher has softened his stance on the Rock Hall after Oasis were voted in on their third nomination.

After previously criticising the institution, Gallagher thanked fans and confirmed he plans to attend.

“Reverse psychology vibes in the area Oasis RnR hall of farmers I mean famers,”

“I wanna thank all the people who voted for us it’s a real honour ever since I was a little kid and singing in the shower I’d dream about 1 day being in the RnR hall of fame it’s true what they say anything is possible if you have a dream (sic),”

He also joked about making amends with organisers.

“Well I was speaking to my mummy last night when the news broke and she thinks I may have been a little hasty with my perception of the organization she’s told me to stop being a d**k and go to the awards and behave and you never know you might enjoy it.”

Gallagher had previously criticised the Hall in 2024 and 2025, dismissing it in blunt terms before Oasis secured their place in the 2026 class.

Billy Idol calls induction a ‘dream come true’

Billy Idol also reacted to the news, describing the honour as a career highlight after decades in music.

“It’s really exciting. I can’t believe it. It’s incredible. It’s just fantastic to think that something I was doing for the sheer love of the scene we were in back in the ’70s, the punk rock scene,”

“We were doing it for the love. We had no idea it was going to explode and lead to me doing this for 50 years. So it’s all really incredible and something I just couldn’t have imagined when I was starting out.”

He added:

“It’s just been fantastic, being part of this musical revolution we really believed in and to be pushing the culture along. It’s been really fun, and a dream come true. And then this is just icing on the cake, just… wow, what an honour! I almost can’t put it into words. To be able to have your peers vote you in and that, it’s pretty special,”

Idol, who released his ninth studio album Dream Into It in April 2025, joins a diverse 2026 class that also includes Phil Collins, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan.
